Pinsy privacy policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Pinsy is a browser extension that lets you save text you highlight on a web page into a checklist, shown in a small box on the page or in the browser side panel.
What it stores
When you choose "Add to Pinsy", the extension saves:
- the text you highlighted,
- the title and web address of the page you highlighted it on,
- whether you have ticked the item off.
It also saves items you type in by hand, your theme, colour, text size and font choices, and where on the screen you like the box to sit and how big it is.
Where it is stored
Everything is stored only on your own device, in your browser's extension storage. It is not sent to the developer or to any other person or company. The extension has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
How it shows the box on a page
By default the extension has no standing permission to read or change any website. When you click its toolbar icon, press its keyboard shortcut, or choose "Add to Pinsy" from the right-click menu, your browser lets it place the Pinsy box on that one tab and read the text you have highlighted there. The box is kept separate from the page, so the page cannot read your list.
If you turn on the optional setting "Keep the box open as I browse", Chrome asks you to allow website access. The extension uses it only to put the box back on each page you open while the box is open. It does not read, collect or send the contents of those pages. You can turn the setting off at any time, which also removes the access.
Some pages show documents embedded from another site, such as artifacts on claude.ai. If you highlight text in one and press the shortcut, Pinsy offers to ask Chrome for access to that one site. If you allow it, Pinsy uses the access only to read the text you highlight there when you press the shortcut. You can remove it at any time from the extension's details page in Chrome.
What it does not do
- It does not read web pages. It only receives text you highlight and choose to add.
- It does not run on any page until you click its icon, shortcut or menu item there, unless you turn on "Keep the box open as I browse".
- It does not sell or share your data, because it never receives it.
Backups
The Export backup button saves your list as a file in your Downloads folder. The Import backup button reads a backup file you choose. These files stay on your device unless you move them yourself.
Removing your data
Delete items inside the extension, or remove the extension from your browser. Removing it deletes everything it stored.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same address with a new date.
